Senior Underwriting Manager

Are you an experienced commercial underwriting professional, with strong experience gained in an MGA, UW Agency or composite insurer dealing with Property, Liabilities and BI. If so, we have a role for you that will offer you a great challenge and the opportunity to move into a senior management level role in a truly exciting business.

We are working closely with a genuinely lovely MGA in Gloucester, who have shown some impressive growth over the last few years (GWP has increased form £10million to £14million in a few years), and now have a genuinely exciting opportunity for someone to join their senior management team.  Speaking to the MD was a breath of fresh air. She is so passionate about the business, and what an exciting and key role this is to their growth and continued success, whilst doing so in a fun and collaborative environment. They are open on title, this could be Underwriting Manager, Head of Underwriting or Technical Lead, this is really up to you!

This MGA focus on Leisure risks, with the main areas of focus currently being Holiday Parks and residential parks and have recently extended this into individuals who own lodges and caravans on these types of parks, having developed a scheme for this. They are also about to move into insuring beach huts too!

You will also get to work closely with the insurer partner, being front and centre in developing this relationship moving forward (and the Insurer are fully committed on a long-term basis to this partnership) as well as working with the head of ops and compliance on an already created underwriting guide for the business. They also need you to look at and develop their underwriting appetite and be responsible identifying new areas they can move into too. You will also get to visit some of these beautiful parks and locations all over the UK (once a month)

They want to speak to two types of people. Senior Underwriters who are looking for the next step in their career, as well as existing underwriting managers/head of underwriting who are looking for a new challenge with an MGA who are really going places. Make no mistake this is a truly excellent opportunity, as previously stated, the successful candidate will be joining the operational board, to take this up to 3. The business itself currently has 40 staff, and you would be responsible for managing 10 within the Gloucester office, all of whom are commercial underwriters of varying experience.

As above, you will need to have strong commercial underwriting experience within Property, Liabilities and BI and will consider those from an MGA, Underwriting Agency or Composite environment. You will also possess an entrepreneurial spirit, being able to develop and drive both the business and team. You will have the ability to inspire those around you, so must also be a highly credible individual.

Product Development experience would also be a big bonus here too though by no means is this essential!

In return, the salary on offer is £55-70k plus bonus, and a strong benefits package which includes 28 days holiday + bank holidays, 10% non-contributary pension, and after probation:- Private Medical Insurance, Income Protection (50% of salary) Life /insurance x 4 of salary, an employee assistance program and 13 week sick pay policy.

The expectation to begin with is that you will be in the office daily, leading from the front inspiring your team and driving the business forward. However, once you have bedded in, they offer hybrid working with 2 days a week from home being the norm here for the rest of the team.
