Underwriting Technician (Motor)
Job Description
We are currently working with an ambitious Insurance company/MGA, who now have an exciting opportunity for someone to join them as an Underwriting Technician in their Romford office.
They have a very low turnover of staff which we feel speaks volumes about the type of organisation they are to work for, with only 4 people leaving the business in the last 10 years and they currently have a strong and close knit team of 28 in this office.
Their Romford underwriting centre handles a range of Commercial and Personal Lines Insurance products, dealing with Classic Cars, Fleet, Private Car, Private Motorcycles, Classic Motorcycles, Motor Trade, Commercial Vehicles, Agricultural Vehicles, Fleet and Public and Private Hire.
Your role will be to process and underwrite their full range of motor based insurance products. This is not a retail role, so you will be dealing with brokers on a day to day basis, not direct customers. They will provide you with 1 to 1 training over a period of six months regardless of experience, and have said the role will have a genuine progression path to move into an Underwriter and then Senior underwriter role in the future.
To be considered for this role you will need to have at least 6 months plus insurance experience gained in either an Underwriting environment or a Motor broking/Personal Lines insurance based role. They are also looking for someone with a stable work history, given their low turnover of staff, stability is huge for them as a business as are decent hard working individuals!
It’s a very consultative role and they are very focussed here on doing things right. No dealing with the public it’s all speaking to brokers, and they need someone who is strong at building relationships with good attention to detail and a good multi tasker, as you will be taking 45-50 calls per day from brokers.
You will also need to possess a friendly professional demeanour with the ability to excel in an underwriting environment.
This role is mainly office based, especially while training but will be flexible after training and if you settle on well and are picking things up they will be happy to offer 1-2 days a week work from home but they all like being in the office here due to the great team they have and how well everyone gets on!
Salary to start is £25k basic , but with pay reviews here done in September, they will also consider you if you are looking for slightly more if you have the right experience for them.
There is also a yearly bonus scheme of between £500-£1000. Office hours are Monday to Friday 9am-5pm with 1 hour for lunch . They also offer a Pension met up to 4%. There is no parking at the office, but after probation they have a deal with the local council to get staff a parking discount locally.
